Performance enhancements

Building on our earlier transition to the CQRS‑based API, this release introduces two performance enhancements:

  • Data retrieval no longer waits for pending data changes. Editors can update content while end-users continue using content uninterrupted, resulting in a more seamless experience.
  • The code that determines whether a user can view specific content has been optimized. This check runs across many interactions, such as opening or saving content, starting a course, generating progress and opening a library, and takes in to account the user account, user role, content channel assignments, content channel membership, guest access, ownership and imported content visibility. Because this logic is used so frequently, this improvement enhances the peformance of nearly every action in SelfGuide.

Another enhancement was revealed from telemetry, an unnecessary data request was performed when opening a course. This has been removed, resulting in a quicker course open.

Improved styling for an empty libraries

When starting with SelfGuide or the usage of a specific content type  (e.g. instruction, user guide or course), it's common to have an empty library. We have updated the design of all libraries to look consistent, behave uniformly and clearly guides the editor to the next step.

Bugfixes

The bugs below are fixed:

  • Staring a course from an LMS was not possible for first-time users
  • The 'Unsaved changes' modal did not close the editor when triggered from a Close button
  • Libraries could show incorrect items if a user role changed from editor to user, leading to errors when opening content
  • In some cases, opening a course resulted in an unexpected error
