08 September - Improved practice mode

This article is from before the rebranding to SelfGuide. Text and images can include the old product name ProductivityPerformer or its abbreviation PP.

Based on feedback and user interaction, we have made some changes in the practice mode for exercises. These changes are intended to improve the experience when users perform an exercise in SelfGuide. Read more about this and other changes below.

Practice mode improvements

The practice mode gives the user the possibility to learn by doing, the users receives an assignment and is required to interact with SelfGuide to reach the end of the exercise. While doing, users sometimes did not really get a hint when expected or by accident closed the exercise and needed to start from the beginning. The changes below have been made to improve this functionality:

  • The hint area has been made smaller to make the hint more precise
  • The name of the instruction is now by default on the preface of the exercise
  • The text on the button to show the assignment while performing the exercise has been made more intuitive
  • A user can click on the same location to resume the exercise after reading the assignment
  • The window layout has been made the same as the Instruction viewer

Clear sort preference

A list view can be sorted on a specific column by clicking on a the header of the column. The behavior of the clicks has been changed to be able to clear (back to default) the custom sort preference. When clicking the column header (and currently no sort is active on the column), the behavior below is applied:

  • First click: sort column ascending
  • Second click: sort column descending
  • Third click: sort is reset and set back to default

Note: the third click behavior is not applicable on the column used for the default sort

Save button is only enabled when a change has has been made

The Save button in the Instruction editor should only be enabled when a change has actually been made and can be saved. Not all edge cases where covered by this behavior, for example adding and directly removing a censor area. The missing edge cases are added so the button behaves as expected.

Add operation id to Oops modal

SelfGuide is not 100% perfect and sometimes functionality does not behave as expected. When such a situation occurs, SelfGuide always tries to inform the user about the situation using the Oops modal. When users reach out to us for help, the more precise we know what happened, the easier it is to help and hopefully solve the issue. To make this contact easier, the modal now:

  • Has the option to directly contact support using an e-mail
  • Contains a unique reference id which is imported for our investigation

UX improvements

Too continue the UX improvement of the last releases, with this release modals in SelfGuide will be updated. All modals of a specific type (warning, notification, etc.) now look and behave the same. In the same effort, the look & feel of several modals has been improved.

  • The feedback overview did not show the default step title when the title of a step was empty
