Step image requirements

Introduction

Instruction steps can be created using the SelfGuide Recorder or by uploading images. Image uploads are only supported when the uploaded image meets the required specifications. These requirements are based on the image's format, dimensions, and file size.

When an image meets all requirements, a preview is displayed after upload. If one or more requirements are not met, the editor is informed of the issue and the image can't be used.

Requirements

Uploaded images must meet the following requirements:

• Supported formats: PNG, JPEG, JPG, GIF, WEBP
• Minimum dimensions: 500 × 500 pixels
• Maximum dimensions: 3000 × 3000 pixels
• Maximum file size: 10 Mb

Image optimizations

After an image is uploaded, SelfGuide automatically optimizes it for use in an instruction:

1. All uploaded images are converted to WEBP format and compressed using the same settings applied to images captured with the SelfGuide Recorder.
2. Images that exceed the maximum width or height are automatically scaled down to the maximum supported dimensions. After resizing, the image must still meet the minimum width and height requirements.

These optimizations help ensure consistent image quality and performance across all instructions.
