18 April - Intuitive close behavior

This article is from before the rebranding to SelfGuide. Text and images can include the old product name ProductivityPerformer or its abbreviation PP.

A few releases ago the navigation in SelfGuide was improved so that an editor can directly start editing an Instruction from the viewer. Now, the navigation has been improved further so that the Close button behavior as well as the Share functionality are more intuitive and consistent. Read more about this and other changes below.

Close returns to the previous window

With the previous change, the Close button in the Instruction editor would return to the Instruction viewer when the editor was opened from that window. However, after returning to the viewer from the editor, using the Close button again would return to the Home window instead of the window you navigated from before.

All Close buttons have now been updated such that these buttons open the previous window. In the example described above, the Close button in the viewer will not open the Home window, but instead will open the window where the instruction was opened, for example the Instruction Library or a User Guide.

New styling for the breadcrumb

All windows in SelfGuide contain a breadcrumb in the top bar to visualize the current location to the user, but previously some windows differed from each other in how the breadcrumb was displayed. In this release the appearance of the breadcrumb has been made uniform in each window where it is present. All libraries will now show the content type and all detail windows show the content type and the title of the content.

Consistent close buttons & no share functionality in the edit window

All Close and Share buttons have been made consistent. Below is a summary of the changes:

  • Close button in the User Guide read window
  • Close button in the Course read window
  • All close buttons have an icon
  • No share button in the edit window

No clipping of the crosshair

Crosshairs on the border of the step image were clipped resulting in only a part of the crosshair being shown. We have changed this behavior to an overflow so that the entire crosshair is shown, including the part outside of the window. This change improves the visibility of the crosshair near the borders of the image.

Search using REST API (preview)

Available instructions in SelfGuide only have value when a user knows about their existence and can easily access those instructions to gain knowledge when needed. To increase visibility, it can be helpful to bring the available content to the users. For this purpose the REST API has been extended with a search module. An example use case is showing instructions when a user is searching on the Intranet.

Manage application identities (preview)

An application identity is required to authorize and send request to the SelfGuide REST API. Admins now have the ability to list, add and delete application identities as shown below.
